7 Brand New Pokemon Were Just Added To Pokemon GO And This Is How You Can Get Them

Today’s update was, in a single word, awesome. I don’t care what the negative Nellies had to say, I thoroughly enjoyed logging into the game and catching a Christmas hat wearing Pikachu! But that’s not all that was added to the game today, oh no, not by a long shot. 8 brand new Pokemon were just added to the game as well!

For now, there is only one way to obtain the new Pokemon: they must be hatched from an egg (except for one of them, which is an evolution of a Pokemon that is hatched from an egg). This means that you’ll be spending a LOT of time walking over the next few weeks. These are the new Pokemon and where (and how) to obtain them:

Pichu:

Pichu is Pikachu’s equally adorable younger sibling. Or child. Or…. Yeah, you get the point. Pichu is the pre-evolution of Pikachu and Raichu. From now on, as far as we can tell, Pikachu will (probably) no longer hatch from an egg. Instead, you’ll hatch a Pichu.

  • Egg hatched from: 5km
  • Amount of candy required to evolve into Pikachu: 25

Cleffa:

Cleffa is the pre-evolution of Clefairy and Clefable, and is a cute pink little monster from the moon. It’s the exact same deal as with Pichu & Pikachu: the introduction of Cleffa means that Clefairy will (probably) no longer hatch from an egg.

  • Egg hatched from: 2km
  • Amount of candy required to evolve into Clefairy: 25

Igglybuff:

Igglybuff is Cleffa’s best friend, and they play together every day at the daycare center while their trainers are out fighting Team Rocket. Igglybuff is the pre-evolution of Jigglypuff and Wigglytuff, and yep, same deal as above; Jigglypuff will (probably) no longer hatch from an egg.

  • Egg hatched from: 2km
  • Amount of candy required to evolve into Jigglypuff: 25

Togepi:

Cuteness overload. If you’re an old-school anime fan, you’ll remember Togepi as that little egg Pokemon that Misty always carried around. Togepi is unique among the new Pokemon added to the game in that its evolution, Togetic, was not available in the game until now.

  • Egg hatched from: 5km
  • Amount of candy required to evolve into Togetic: 50

Togetic:

Togetic is the slightly less eggy, more grown-up evolution of Togepi. You won’t find one of these Pokemon inside an egg, and that’s because it must be evolved from a Togepi (duh) for a grand total of 50 candy.

Smoochum:

Smoochum is the sassy pre-evolution of Jynx. As with all of the other pre-evolutions on this list, since Smoochum has been added to the game, Jynx will (probably) no longer hatch from an egg.

  • Egg hatched from: 10km
  • Amount of candy required to evolve into Jynx: 25

Elekid:

Elekid is the electrifying pre-evolution of Electabuzz. Same deal as above: with the addition of Elekid to the game, Electabuzz will (probably) no longer hatch from an egg.

  • Egg hatched from: 10km
  • Amount of candy required to evolve into Electabuzz: 25

Magby:

And last but not least, Magby is the pre-evolution of Magmar. You know the drill by now: Magmar will (probably) no longer hatch from an egg.

  • Egg hatched from: 10km
  • Amount of candy required to evolve into Magmar: 25

But where the heck is Tyrogue?

Something interesting about this latest update was that Tyrogue hasn’t been added to the game alongside the other baby Pokemon. For those who aren’t in the know, Tyrogue is a Pokemon that is very similar to the ones listed above in that it is the pre-evolution of both Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan. Perhaps Niantic aren’t sure how to implement Tyrogue yet? Who knows.

But what do you think about these new Pokemon? Have you managed to hatch one yet? Do you think Niantic made a good move by only releasing 8 (out of a possible 95) Pokemon today? Let me know your thoughts in the comments section below!

  1. Ok OK… Late last evening, I final hatched an IgglyBuff …
and at that point my pokedex expanded…

Sooooo… I Take back my BS charge… He he he

  2. Dude, it’s not that easy to hatch them. I hatched a Igglybuff yesterday and my pokédex expanded to 174 entries…

  3. I am calling BS on this.
I live in Raleigh NC USA. and NO ONE I know or have spoken too has seen any expansion of their Pokedex.
NO ONE I know or have spoken too has hatched a single new Pokémon type.
It maybe happening in the big cities but it isn’t happening here.

  4. Here in Raleigh NC. USA we have no such thing. In fact no one I know or have spoken too has seen any changes in their pokedex and no one has hatched any “New Pokémon”… I think this is a myth or is only happening in Large cities..

As far as I am concerned, I am officially calling “BS” to this egg thing.

  5. Today, a friend of mine hatched a 10km egg for a Jynx and I hatched a 2km egg for a Clefairy. But, on the other hand, we got both eggs before the new update of the game — so I don’t know if this inflicts the results, and now on they won’t be available anymore, or if this can prove Jynx and Clefairy will still be available in eggs.
