Well, it was good while it lasted, but today marks the final day that you’ll be able to go out into the wild and encounter, defeat, and then catch an Articuno. That’s right; Articuno is leaving Pokemon GO today.
We’re not exactly sure when Articuno will be leaving or when Moltres will begin to appear, but we do know that it will be some time today. According to the official Pokemon GO blog, Articuno will be leaving (and Moltres will be arriving) on the 31st of July, which just so happens to be today.
So, Moltres is up next. In order to be able to defeat it the moment it arrives on the scene, you’re going to want to stock up on some very specific Pokemon. These are the three best counters to a Moltres raid, in order from most effective to least (but still very) effective, according to Pokebattler:
Omastar. Omastar is a Water/Rock type Pokemon, which means it will take heavily reduced damage from Moltres’ fire attacks. Ideally, you’ll want your army of Omastar to have either a Rock/Water/Ground quick move, and a Rock charge move.
Golem. Golem is a Ground/Rock type Pokemon, which means it too will take reduced damage from Moltres’ fire attacks. Just like with Omastar, you’re going to want your Golem squad to have a Rock quick move & a Rock charge move, in order to deal super effective damage against Moltres.
Tyranitar. Tyranitar is a Dark/Rock type Pokemon, which, you guessed it, means that it will take reduced damage from Moltres’ fire attacks as well. You’re going to want a Dark quick move for Tyranitar (Bite is Tyranitar’s only good quick move), and a Rock charge move.
Those are the three best Pokemon to use against a Moltres raid boss, but if you’re like me and you don’t have a full army of them just yet, you can check out our full list of the best Pokemon for legendary raids to see what other Pokemon are useful as well.
So, Articuno is leaving Pokemon GO, and Moltres is about to arrive. What do you think about putting the legendary birds on a rotation like this? Is it a good way to keep players excited about the legendary Pokemon, or would you rather have access to all of them at once? As always, let me know your thoughts in the comment section below!
