Here’s How To Evolve Eevee Into Espeon And Umbreon In Pokemon GO By Using The Eevee Name Trick

Evolve Eevee Into Espeon And Umbreon

So, you’ve managed to log onto the game despite the immense server lag and now you’re wondering how to evolve Eevee into Espeon and Umbreon, but you’re not quite sure how to do it. Maybe it’s random, or maybe it’s got something to do with the time of the day? Or, maybe it’s done the exact same way as the original Eevee name trick was done for Vaporeon, Flareon, and Jolteon.

Okay, I shouldn’t say maybe, because at this point we’re pretty much certain that yes, to evolve Eevee into Espeon and Umbreon you do it the exact same way as we’ve been doing it for the first three Eeveelutions; you give them a specific name, and then you evolve them.

And, just like the first three Eeveelutions, the name we give our Eevee before evolving it comes straight from the anime, too. In this case, we’re naming our Eevee “Tamao” to get an Umbreon, and “Sakura” to get an Espeon.

In the anime, Sakura and Tamao were two of the five Kimono sisters, who all had one of the first five Eeveelutions (Vaporeon, Jolteon, Flareon, Umbreon, and Espeon) as their main Pokemon. Sakura with her Espeon (left) and Tamao with her Umbreon (right) are pictured below:

For months, trainers have been speculating that the names “Sakura” and “Tamao” would be the names required to evolve Eevee into Espeon and Umbreon, and now it’s finally been (at least partially) confirmed. Who knows, it could just be insane luck that hundreds of people have managed to get the trick to work, right?

And, yes, we even tried it for ourselves (video above) and it worked flawlessly! My only regret is that I didn’t wait until I had a 100% Eevee to evolve into an Umbreon or an Espeon, but I guess I’ll just have to pray for good luck when I do obtain such a beast.

NOTE: You can only evolve Eevee into Espeon and Umbreon once by using the Eevee naming trick. If you want to get yourself an Espeon or Umbreon after using the trick, you’ll have to use a different method. Again, just to reiterate, to evolve Eevee into Espeon and Umbreon, the Eevee naming trick is required. Simply name your Eevee “Tamao” to get an Umbreon, and “Sakura” to get an Espeon.

So if you can manage to log into the game and avoid all of the lag, give it a try for yourself! If it worked (or even better, if it didn’t work), let us know in the comment’s section below!

  1. For those that are angry that this trick doesn’t work more than once they say in the article that it only works one time, As stated here
“NOTE: You can only evolve Eevee into Espeon and Umbreon once by using the Eevee naming trick. If you want to get yourself an Espeon or Umbreon after using the trick, you’ll have to use a different method.”

  2. I named an Eevee ballsack and i got teabagged by a Mankey. So I said “oh hell yeah!” And i decided to name another Eevee, but this time I named it face babies You wanna know what i got? A money shot right to the face! But this time it was Bulbasaur who gave me his throat lotion. Happy Gunching everybody.

  3. Uhhh….. I evolved an Eevee named Tamao (I NEVER got an Umbreon before this) and it turned into a Jolteon. I know this is unusual, but now what do I do?

    • well you are supposed to make it your buddy and walk with it 10 km at least, evolve at night for umbreon and during the day for Espeon after you have done the 10 km walk.
also dont forget to rename it.

  4. The first time i tried the names it worked. The second time it did not. I am not sure but it looks like it may only work once for each.

  5. I got my Espeon and Umbreon🙂 first time which i’m so happy, i did what you said and it worked but i try a second time then it didn’t ☹️ then i heard form other videos that it only works first time. when will it work a second?? if you find out please let us know 👍thanks

  6. Same thing as Clinton. Tried on lower eevees and it worked for both. Tried on my highest eevee and got a jolteon 😡Guess it only works once???

  7. Work the first time for both. Second time I tried Tamao it evolved to a Vaporeon. Trick might only work once, so I would fully power up before trying to evolve.

  8. The first time I went for Umbreon I went by your method it worked. The second time I did the Exact same thing double checked and I got Vaporeon. WTF? Probably a glitch. But it was annoying.

  9. It worked first try with those names! Thanks so much! I tried them both at 4pm using the names and got them. I’m in Sydney Australia.

  10. Same. First time I tried with Umbreon at night worked. I tried to get another Umbreon but got Vaporeon instead. I’m gonna try to get Espeon in the morning

  11. I had 20 high level Evees ready for this. I evolved 10 and only received the initial 3 evolves. Tried Sakura and it worked 1st attempt. Tried Tamao 4 times and no good. It’s dark out now and tried another 3 Tamao’s (unloading and rebooting each time) to no avail. I’ve got 2 more high level Evees and am going to wait until someone can hopefully tell me something new. I gotta catch em’ all.

  12. That worked perfectly! I did Umbreon with the name trick at night, and reset the app before evolution. Some people were having trouble so I think it only works once and maybe you can only get Umbreon at night and Espion in the day? Like the original game.

  13. I tried this. I tried Sakura on a lower level eevee to see if it would work and it did! So immediately renamed my most powerful eevee that I’d been saving to evolve into an espeon and it didn’t work… I named it Sakura and it evolved into a vaporeon. I am less than happy.

    • Ok. Update. I just tried to evolve an umbreon with the name trick and I powered him up (wasting a bunch of candies and stardust) first and it evolved into a vaporeon. What’s going on here? I’m pretty pissed right now.

      • it’s to teach you a lesson on powering up after evolving because powering up before or after an evolution does not make a difference in CP
