Well, it was good while it lasted, but today marks the final day that you’ll be able to go out into the wild and encounter, defeat, and then catch a Moltres. That’s right; Moltres is leaving Pokemon GO today.
We’re not exactly sure when Moltres will be leaving or when Zapdos will begin to appear, but we do know that it will be some time today. According to the official Pokemon GO blog, Moltres will be leaving (and Zapdos will be arriving) on the 7th of August, which just so happens to be today.
So, Zapdos is up next. In order to be able to defeat it the moment it arrives on the scene, you’re going to want to stock up on some very specific Pokemon. These are the three best counters to a Zapdos raid, in order from most effective to least (but still very) effective, according to Pokebattler:
Golem. Golem is a Ground/Rock type Pokemon, which means it will take reduced damage from Zapdos’ electric attacks. The ideal moves on your Golem will be either Rock/Ground for a quick move, and Rock/Ground for a charge move.
Piloswine. Piloswine is an Ice/Ground type Pokemon, which means it too will take reduced damage from Zapdos’ electric attacks. And, since Ice attacks are strong against flying type Pokemon, you’ll want your Piloswine to have an Ice quick move and an ice charge move!
Tyranitar. Tyranitar is a Dark/Rock type Pokemon, which, you guessed it, means that it will take reduced damage from Zapdos’ electric attacks as well. You’re going to want a Dark quick move for Tyranitar (Bite is Tyranitar’s only good quick move), and a Rock charge move.
Those are the three best Pokemon to use against a Zapdos raid boss, but if you’re like me and you don’t have a full army of them just yet, you can check out our full list of the best Pokemon for legendary raids to see what other Pokemon are useful as well.
So, Moltres is leaving Pokemon GO, and Zapdos is about to arrive. What do you think about putting the legendary birds on a rotation like this? Is it a good way to keep players excited about the legendary Pokemon, or would you rather have access to all of them at once? As always, let me know your thoughts in the comment section below!
