Around 30 minutes ago, a post was made to the official Pokemon GO Twitter and Facebook pages indicating that yep, you guessed it, Pokemon GO Gen 2 has been released, and with it, 80+ new Pokemon are now roaming around the world ready to be caught.
As well as the new Gen 2 Pokemon that are now available, Niantic have added a whole bunch of new features and items such as berries, character customization, evolution items, a new user interface when catching Pokemon, and a whole lot more.
The official post begins with “Trainers, Pokémon GO is in the process of being updated to version 0.57.2 for Android and 1.27.2 for iOS devices. Below are some release notes and comments from our development team.”
And then continues on to list the new features that have come to the game “Over 80 additional Pokémon originally discovered in the Johto region can be caught. Gender-specific variations of select Pokémon can be caught. Added new encounter mechanics. Added Poké Ball and Berry selection carousels to the encounter screen. Added two new Berries.”
That’s a lot of new content, but we’re only half way. Here’s the rest of the stuff that has been added to the game: “Added new avatar outfit and accessory options. Added new night-mode map and encounter music. Added bonus Candies for catching Evolved Pokémon. Implemented Apple Watch connection stability improvement. Various bug fixes. Minor text fixes.”
I think the biggest thing to come out of this update that we didn’t already know was coming is the additional candy for catching evolved Pokemon. This is something that we’ve been asking for ever since the game came out, and finally gives us an incentive to actually go out and hunt for evolved Pokemon.
So there you have it, Pokemon GO Gen 2 has been released. Personally, we here at Pokemon GO Informer are going to spend the next 4 or 5 hours playing the game, catching some new Pokemon, and enjoying Pokemon GO like we did the weekend it was released.
But what about you? Is Gen 2 enough to get you back into the game? Or did you never leave? Let me know your thoughts about the Gen 2 update in the comment section below!
