The Pokemon GO Solstice Event Has Begun, And It’s Way Better Than We Were Expecting!

Pokemon GO Solstice Event

We’ve been eagerly awaiting this awesome event for the last few days, and thankfully, it has finally begun. I am of course referring to the Pokemon GO Solstice Event, which is shaping up to be much more exciting and action-packed than we had originally thought.

For those who are unaware, the Pokemon GO Solstice Event – also known as the fire and ice event – is an event that features an increased spawn rate for ice and fire type Pokemon, extra XP for certain in-game actions, as well as discounted prices for Lucky Eggs. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

When the event was first announced, many players assumed that we might get double XP for all of the in-game actions listed in the original event details. Instead, we’re getting a massive 3x XP when we catch a Pokemon, catch a Pokemon with the first throw, catch a Pokemon with a curve-ball, and/or catch a Pokemon with the “Nice!”/”Great!”/”Excellent!” throw bonus.

This means that if you catch a Pokemon with your first throw, a curve-ball, and achieve an “Excellent!” throw bonus, you’ll receive an enormous 780 XP instead of the standard 260 XP. If you use a Lucky Egg, that will make 1,560 XP per catch, which is an absolutely colossal amount of XP!

Sadly, there is no additional XP for registering a new Pokemon to the Pokedex, for the first catch of the day, or for the 7th day streak (for catching Pokemon). However, with the 3x XP that has been applied to all of the actions listed above, I think we can let this slide!

To make a great event even greater, you will also receive a whopping 5x XP when hatching your eggs. This means that hatching a 2km egg will yield 1,000 XP, hatching a 5km egg will yield 2,500 XP, and hatching a 10km egg will yield 5,000 XP. If you use a Lucky Egg, the XP jumps to 2,000 XP, 5,000 XP, and 10,000 XP respectively, which is quite enormous.

And, to top it all off, fire and ice type Pokemon seem to be just about everywhere! I’ve personally already caught multiple Cyndaquil, Swinub, and Growlithe, as well as a Lapras and a Magmar! In my opinion, the Pokemon GO Solstice Event is by far one of the best events that we’ve had yet.

What do you think about the Pokemon GO Solstice Event? Are you happy with the boosted XP for catching and hatching Pokemon? Have you noticed an increased spawn rate for ice and fire type Pokemon in your area? As always, let me know your thoughts in the comment section below!

  1. xp is awesome, but pretty much the same pokemon showing up. No Lapras showed up. Mainly Cynaquil and seals. A few Swinub, no Magamar. Lots of the regulars showing up.Was hoping a few that we haven’t seen such as dratini or lapras would be out, but none here.
