Did Pokémon Sun And Moon Just Confirm That Gen 1 Is Getting A Remake?

Pokemon Sun Moon Gen 1 Remake

In case you hadn’t noticed live under a rock, Pokémon Sun and Moon are out. They were released over the weekend, and we here at Pokémon GO Informer have taken some time off from playing Pokémon GO to explore the Alola region.

And, while we were playing, we came across a pretty cool easter egg. An easter egg that might have just given us confirmation that a Gen 1 remake is in production over at Game Freak right now.

It all starts when you reach the second island of the game, Akala island, and enter the city of Heahea. If you walk near the Pokémon Center (just above Diglett’s Tunnel), you’ll find a building with a set of stairs. Head up the stairs, go through the door, and you’ll enter this room:

If you’ve played any other Pokémon game before, this room might seem very familiar. Inside, there’s a bunch of people working at computers, and it’s obviously a reference to the real-world “Game Freak”, the very same company that made this Pokémon game you’re playing. It’s made so obvious that even the door mat is incredibly similar:

Do you see the overwhelming similarity?

Once you’ve entered the room, head on over to the left hand side and talk to the man standing by the wall. He’ll inform you that his team is currently working on a video game, and then he’ll ask you to choose a color:

This is the first warning sign. What are the four colors we’re presented with? Red, green, blue, and yellow. The four colors that symbolize Gen 1. If you answer “blue” or “red”, he’ll try to tell you what kind of person you are based on your answer.

But if you answer with “green” or “yellow”, you’ll get an even better reply. This is what he says when you answer with “yellow”:

This is a blatant reference to the Gen 1 game “Pokémon Yellow”, which featured Pikachu as the main Pokémon. But it gets better; this is what he says if you answer with “green”:

This is something that only hardcore fans of the series would notice, and is a reference to “Pokémon Green”. “Pokémon Green” was only ever released in Japan, which is why you’d need to be “dedicated to our game” or a “fanatic” to know about.

So at this point it’s pretty obvious that the game these in-game developers are working on is a Gen 1 remake. The real question is, are Game Freak actually working on a Gen 1 remake right now? Or was this all just some kind of joke? Only time will tell.

What do you think? Do you think this is confirmation that a Gen 1 remake is underway? Or do you think we’re just grasping at straws here? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below, and if you haven’t picked up a copy of Sun or Moon yet, you can grab yours for a cool $32 USD from Amazon by clicking here.
