Sprint Are Giving Away Great Balls, Lucky Eggs, And Incense

Yes, you read that correctly folks, Sprint are giving away Great Balls, Lucky Eggs, and Incense as part of their brand new giveaway. The only catch is that you must first go in-store to obtain these goodies!

We’re not sure yet how many of each item will be available per person, but hey, free items are free items, so no complaining! As well as the Great Balls, Lucky Eggs, and Incense, you will also earn 200 Trainer Rewards points, which can be used to redeem other prizes.

For those unfamiliar with Trainer Rewards, it’s an initiative set up by Sprint & Boost Mobile that rewards Pokemon GO players with gift cards and other rewards when they complete certain actions and tasks. You can check it out by clicking here.

As for this giveaway, the official post reads: “PRIZE: Pokémon GO Code for Great Balls, Lucky Eggs and Incense. *Requires Android Smartphone to redeem code. Data rates may apply.” Sadly, there is no mention of when this event will begin or end.

It should be noted that since the official post references redeeming a code, that this giveaway will probably be the first to take advantage of the new promo code feature that was recently added to Pokemon GO. If this giveaway is a success, we could see more events using the promo code functionality, which would be fantastic.

Finally, in the small print, it makes it very clear that this giveaway is for Android device users only. This could be due to the fact that, according to many sources, Apple prohibit the use of promo codes in apps distributed through their service. This sucks, but it is what it is.

Hopefully Niantic will come up with a creative way to bypass this Apple ban on promo codes, but until then, it looks like Android users will be enjoying an advantage. This post will be updated as soon as more details emerge about the start and end dates of the event.

But what do you think about this? Sprint are giving away Great Balls, Lucky Eggs, and Incense, but since it’s limited to in-store entries only, will you be able to enter? And what do you think about the Android only aspect of this giveaway? As always, let me know what you think in the comment section below!

  1. Disappointing, I live in Canada, Northern Ontario. First of all, there are only 3 gyms in my community, and 6 pokestops. I have to walk 6km to do a one way trip of this, and then walk back home. Means I only get to play on weekends. Now, there is no Sprint dealer here, and then I’m on an iPhone. Maybe I should get my s-i-law to log into my account with a buddy’s android so I can get a free item?

  2. Well I went into my local Sprint store (Solon OH) and they had no idea the event was even happening! I was there for almost 45 minutes while they called around and tried to figure it out, at one point I thought I was going to be able to get it, the guy managed to look up the event on the sprint website but as soon as he tried to access it his site kept crashing. He said he thought it might be only happening at corporate stores but it as honestly clueless. What a major let down and waist of my time! I read on a few posts that there were 200 store participating but no where did I see a list of which stores. Sprint should have done a much better job informing their employees if they were or were not a part of the promotion! For me it was a total flop and left me rather unhappy at Sprint… If they can’t handle giving out promotion codes how are they supposed to handle anything.

  3. apple charges a 30% vig on any transaction run through the app store. Apparently Niantic’s other game, Ingress, uses similar promo codes but apple users had to enter it through a special website set up by Niantic. I would think they would have something similar set up soon after launch of the codes if they are android only at launch. even though I play on android anyways, I don’t forsee them leaving out at least half of their gaming audience for very long.

  4. When sprint first became a sponsor, I posted on a forum that it is a conflict of iterest for Niantic to partner with a particular cellular carrier. This promotion demonstrates my fear. They are giving game items players that choose sprint as their carrier. Some one will likely argue that you don’t have to be a sprint customer to walk into their store and claim game items. May be true but many people feel uncomfortable doing so.
