It’s been a rough few days for Pokémon GO. The latest update totally removed the in-game tracking, making it borderline impossible to actually find Pokémon (not that it was any better with the perma three steps bug, though). Not only that, but third-party app Pokévision has also been killed. Murdered. Slain. R.I.P.
That’s enough moping, though, because there is a silver lining to all of this. Out of the ashes of Pokévision comes a new app called Pokéscanner, and while I’ve only been using it for an hour or so, I’ve got a feeling that it’s going to be better than its predecessor.
Pokéscanner works exactly how you’d expect a Pokémon tracker to work. You can either let it access your GPS to determine your location, or you can enter a Country, State, or City name, and find yourself manually. Once the location is all set up, you can run a scan to find nearby Pokémon.
Oh, and it gets better than that. You can also adjust the search radius: anywhere from 140m to well over 1km. This is super handy if you’re only interested in finding Pokémon that are nearby, or, on the flip-side, if you want to find Pokémon that are a small drive away.
Another cool feature that I’m loving is the real-time gym tracker. As well as nearby Pokémon, Pokéscanner shows you exactly where your closest gyms are, what team controls them, and what level/prestige they are. Pretty cool, huh?
There are a few things to note before you run off and download the app, though. First of all, the app is currently Android only. I know, I know, it SUCKS, right? Take it up with the developer yourself by clicking here.
Second, you need to log-in to the app with a “Pokémon Trainer Club” account. As far as I know, the app will use the account details of the PTC account to scan the area for Pokémon, so this is non-negotiable. Just create a new PTC account here, and use that for the app. It’ll take you 5 minutes.
Finally, the app creator had this to say about his creation: “I wouldn’t run this on the same phone you use (for) PoGo”. Uhoh. Perhaps I’m just lucky, but I haven’t had any issues running the tracker on the same phone that I play Pokémon GO with, yet… Be careful when using this app…
What do you think about this new app? Are you worried you’ll get banned, or are you going to use it anyway? Let me know in the comments below!
